Helium is the second element in the periodic table.Helium is one of the noble gases, it is also an unrealative, colorless, and odorless monatomic gas. The symbol for Helium is He, and is pronounced as HEE-lee-em. <Ref> Steve Gagnon. The density and viscosity of helium vapors are lower than others, and the boiling point is lower but weighs more than others as well. There are many uses for helium among us, a few being filling balloons, making neon lasers, leak detectors, and helping flotation devices stay afloat. As well as being put in breathing tanks for deep sea divers.

Discovery

There are two men credited with the discovery of this gas, Pierre Janssen and Norman Lockyer. <ref>Edwards, D.L.(1937)." Together they discovered the red flames that surround the solar disk. If this solar eclipse hadn't taken place then who knows how long the discovery would be postponed and how long the people of the world would not know about such a useful asset to the lives of how many now-a-days. This new element in the earth was not very productive until 1895, when Sir William Ramsay observed a gas produced by a Norwegian ore when treated with acids. In this experiment it was proven, when they saw the yellow stripes, that helium does exist on earth.

Commonly known for its use to blow up balloons and blimps, but has a huge roll in cooling magnets in MRI machines. Helium is found in natural gas deposits .

After the discovery of helium was made many scientist explored the possible ideas of what this newly found substance was capable of, and how much of it is on earth. <ref>Meadows, A.J. (1972). Science and Controversy. Cambridge, Massachusetts: MIT Press. p.237</ref> It came to be known that helium covered five parts for every 100,000 parts of air and about 0.0005% that we breathe. Also discovered that when inhaled helium does not damage your body unless it is not inhaled in accessed amounts but it changes your voice into a squeaky pitch. There are many uses for this gas, some toxic and harmful but some are used to create fun experiences and to create new found ways for greater causes and further experiments. Helium in the world is what we now know is something that is used on a daily basis for almost everything air related. Without this natural gas we would not have many of the fun things that we use today. This new gas changed the world in ways that nobody will ever imagine.
