Pure Substances

According to Linus Pauling, substances are "homogeneous species of matter with reasonably definite chemical composition." Substances only containing the same item are called pure substances. The two types are elements and compounds.


Mixtures

Mixtures are substances made by combining two or more substances without a chemical reaction occurring. Mixtures are everywhere around us. The two types of mixtures are homogeneous and heterogeneous.
