Anions are negatively charged ions created by the gain of electrons.[1]
Ions that are negatively charged atoms are called anions. CITATION REQUIRED If an atom one or more electrons that are forcibly added, they are also called anions. An anion will have a net negative charge, if it gains electrons or loses protons as an atom or group. [2] By adding -ide to the root name of an atom the atom obtains anion names. Unlike a cation, taking the root name of the atom and changing the ending it's how an anion is named. To form an anion you have to add electrons.
- change ending of element name to -ide
